Catcher Post 1

Ok, so we're getting into the book now, and I want to know what you think about Holden so far. Do you like him? Would you want to be friends with him? Why or Why not? Why do you think he is the way he is? Also, (if you've already read the book, don't give this away) what do you think is going to happen to Holden? How is this book going to end?

  1. I do not like Holden and I would not want to be his friend because he lies all the time and doesn't seem like he would be truthworthy. I think he is that way because of his bad relationship with his parents. I think that Holden will end up dating Jane and he will have a good relationship with his parents in the end!

  2. I don't like Holden too much, maybe just because he is the exact opposite of me and he's always in a bad mood. I wouldn't want to be his friend because he would put me in a bad mood. He is so negative about everything and he hates doing everything. I think he is the way he is because of the people he's been associated with in his life. I think that maybe his parents might not have paid very much attention to him as a child and just gave him money and sent him off to expensive schools. I think inside he really wants to gave a good relationship with his parents, but instead of showing that he expresses his sadness through anger and sarcasm. I agree with Aaron, I think his relationship with his parents will become better.

  3. I think Holden is a really troubled teen. I do like Holden as a character in the book, but I would not like him if he were actually a person. His characteristics seem to be pretty negative for the most part. I would not be able to be friends with him. I think he is the way he is, because he has dealt with a lot of issues in his life, including his brother dying. I think Holden and Jane will get together.

  4. I don't like holden per say but he does remind me of my self in a way over exaggerated sense. I cant say that i would be his friend but that is only cause i know what he thinks but if i didnt i probably would. I think it is because he isnt close to his parents that he feels like this. He might date jane and i doubt he will be close to his parents.

  5. I think that Holden is very critical of other people, but I do like him. What he thinks about a lot of things is exactly how I look at certain things. I wouldnt necessarily want to be friends with him because he is not very honest. I think he is like that because he seeks attention, probably because he did not get very much attention as a child. I have already read the book, so I know the ending.

  6. I don't like Holden. I think he has a horrible attitude about things. I would probably have a hard time being friends with him. He talks negatively about people all the time and I wouldn't want to be around that very much. He is probably this way because he wants attention and the people he was around when he was younger were negative also.
I think Holden will eventually get the courage to talk to Jane and they will end up together before the end of the book.

  7. Holden, to say the least, is a little irritating. I like him as a character, but I definitely don't think I would want to know him for very long. I have a feeling I'd end up punching him like Stradlater did. He probably would not be someone I consider my friend, not because he's rude, but because he manages to contradict himself in almost everything he says.

I think the reason he's that way may be because his parents didn't exemplify a really GOOD behavior for him to learn from, not that I think his parents were bad, but that they didn't make sure he understood a right set of manners or anything.

I don't know how the book will end, to be honest, but I really think Holden needs to be put through some psych tests and get his head straight.

  8. I really don't like Holden, and I wouldn't be friends with him. He is way too cynical, and doesn't care about much of anything. I think he is the way he is because of the way he was raised. He very rarely mentions his parents, and that shows how involved they are with his life. They send him away to private schools, and barely care about him at all. I think that Holden will eventually call Jane and ask her out. They probably will get married, and have children. Hopefully, Holden will try to have a relationship with his parents as well.

  9. I don't really know how I feel about Holden. My first impression of him is that there is a reason he is the way he is. I think his parents are a main reason since they send him to all kinds of rich boarding schools but I think there is something else. I don't think I could be friends with him because he is too disagreeable, and he doesn't like anyone. I think Holden will eventually open up and not be so hard nosed.
